The See-Through Leggings Debate ~ What's Your Stance?

The past few years have seen the return of leggings. We either love them or hate them. I mean I do like them, I think they are that go to wardrobe item when you just want to feel comfortable and less restricted than say wearing a pair of jeans. Now my reason behind this post is lately, my eyes have been offended by what I've seen some girls/ladies turning up in. I'm not saying you have to be a specific size to wear leggings as it's down to personal preference, but I'm sure we all own at least one mirror in our house. Even if you don't own a mirror, you could always ask a real friend.

There is no need to be wearing see-through leggings with short tops where your knickers (underwear) are on display. On most occasions, the knickers are the most unflattering known to man. I mean can we all agree that this just isn't a good look? I think if you've bought leggings and you know that the material is really thin (you can test it by putting your hand in it and if you can see your hand..voila...it's thin!) you shouldn't wear a short top with it. I just don't think it's classy and you end up giving off the wrong impression. Even if you don't want to wear a long top, all you need is a top long enough to cover your crotch & derrière. I don't think the rest of the world is interested in seeing your torn, undersized polka dot knickers.

CULPRITS

I think people "forget" that leggings aren't trousers or jeans. A simple rule is; if you can't susbsitute your leggings with tights, then you shouldn't be wearing that outfit. If you wouldn't feel comfortable wearing just tights with that top, then why are you wearing it??? Having said all of this, I guess we should be grateful that they are at least wearing knickers...*shudder*!

What are your thoughts on the see-through leggings debate?

Thanks for reading!

  1. This literally cracked me up!

Firstly I am with you - check if they are see through for goodness sake, but even if they are sort it out by wearing a LONG top! Unless you are under 9 years old there is no reason to wear a short top with a pair of leggings! And NO NO NO to undies being on show!

Love this post! It made me laugh

  2. This is brilliant-see through leggings are one of my pet peeeves! I don't think anyone should wear them! Eugh, they're awful!

    Great post!

  3. I could not agree more! I personally wear tights under my leggings, and always wear a top that covers my bum. By wearing tights underneath it means I get more coverage and of course less jiggle ;)

I hate it when I see people with see through leggings on, and always feel awkward.

  4. Haha I am so glad you did this post!! I see it all the time and I never know where to look but you get drawn into it haha! I just think as long as the top is long enough to keep the front and back covered you're ok but like you said people forget they are leggings and not trousers. xx

  5. Oh Victoria.. I se you had to get that off your cheset. made me chuckle.
Also one of my pet peevs - really no excuse for chicks to be rocking this see-thru leggings! I cannot stand this fashion faux-pas! *fashion police alert* See-through leggings aka cheapo leggings should be worn as an under garment NOT outerwear. Sadly, I have witnessed the worst: a bootilicious lady in late 30s (im being kind here she actually looked older) went commando beneath her cheapo.. oops, see thru leggings, subjecting the whole world to every lumps and bumps that is her derriere! It was ghastly! I almost screamed. *sigh*

  7. This is why I hate wearing leggings! Thank goodness I've found somebody with the same pet peeves! I still don't wear thicker leggings because I'm afraid of having my bum on show!

  8. This!! Yes!! I totally agree!! This "trend" must be banned immediately! Leggings are not trousers, dear ladies.. Worst thing I ever saw was an older (bit chubby) lady with a huuuge bum (cellulite) wearing white see through leggings and a colourful thong!! I'm scarred for life :(

  9. Haha totally with you on this! I don't understand how people think they can get away with having their whole bum & knickers on show! I would never personally wear a short top with leggings as I don't think the world needs to see that much of my bum, but I do think sometimes it looks ok ONLY if they are really thick and not at all see-through!! I've seen some right horrors of this type though *shudder* xx

  10. LOL!!!Too funny! I agree 100%!!! The problem I have with leggings as well (being a fan myself) is that if you wash them too many times, even the thick ones, they end up being see-through anyways! So either double up or DITCH them!! :) xx

  18. I completely agree with you there! There's no reason to wear see through leggings! It's just not nice...I love leggings myself but I always check in the mirror or ask someone at home to look before I leave the house. They are comfortable to wear but when you wash them one too many time they do thin out and that's the time to ditch them!

  23. So totally agree with you on this!First rule of dressing, dress for your size, second rule, no underwear on show, ever!! Whenever I see these see through leggings they have always, and I mean ALWAYS, been on larger women???? Do not understand it as I would never wear a top short enough to see my bum in leggings and would never wear see through ones either! Nothing worse than visible cellulite yukkkk

  24. This is the best thing I have read in ages! I am so with you on this! I think to wear leggings you top should cover your bum! No matter you size you should not be wearing leggings as trousers! xx

  25. I completely agree with this! I have been banging on to my friends about this for years! They always tell me when they have seen a culprit, I still can't believe people do it. Surely a friend or family member would tell you!

i would not like to appreciate it.. its looking clumsy :s

  27. I absolutely agree with you! I hate girls who wear them as trousers. Fair enough if you have a thick pair that have zero transparency, but plain black tend to have some transparency, and it just looks wrong! Glad someone else agrees xxx
