I thought I would do a post about my top 10 items I think should always be in your makeup bag. If like me, your makeup bag has turned into a hand luggage, then you're carrying far too much stuff. Obviously we are all different, and you might think otherwise, but I would like to think of these items as staples which we may all use at some point and can make or break a look. They aren't in any particular order or in relation to any particular brand.
1. MASCARA
Mascaras can take your eyes from a sleepy
look to a sultry look with just a few strokes. It brightens up your eyes
and your face. You can start your day with top-lashes only for a more natural look and
then add the bottom lashes with one or two extra coats to transition to
night.
2. FOUNDATION & CONCEALER
This is the basis for
flawless skin. Unless you're blessed with clear skin, we all have
blemishes. Whether they are scars or dark circles, I am sure we have
experienced one or both. For more information on choosing the right
foundation or concealer, please click here.
3. POWDER
Now this could be a translucent, bronzing or foundation powder. They all work differently but finish off a look perfectly. The idea is not to look too made up, rather, natural and effortless. A translucent powder is sheer and fine and can be used to set a foundation. You can use a bronzer to contour your face and add some glow to it. I always carry a powder with me..
4. BLUSHER
No makeup bag would be complete without a
blusher. A blusher can give you that healthy rosy cheek glow. It can
just lift a tired appearance and add freshness.
5. EYELINER
Whether it's a gel, liquid or pencil eyeliner, it is definitely a staple for any makeup bag. From precise eyeliner looks to smudgy kohl eyes, eyeliner is a versatile makeup bag must
6. LIPSTICK / LIPGLOSS
Polished lips can complete an overall makeup look or stand on their own as attention-grabbers. Having a lipbalm is also necessary, especially as the weather is getting colder.
7. EYESHADOW
I love the fact that there are different types of eyeshadows. They are just so versatile. Eye color can be dramatic for evening or understated for daytime. It's a great makeup item to have in your bag.
8. A GOOD MOISTURISER
Hydrated skin is the best canvas for make up, so a decent moisturiser is a must. You need to keep your skin hydrated to provide a smooth palette. It is definitely necessary to have a good moisturiser handy on a daily basis.
9. BROW SET
If like me you have thin eyebrows, you will want to fill them out. Some people use eyeshadows but I prefer using a brow set. To read a review of my go to brow set, click here.
10. MAKE UP BRUSHES
What did you think you were going to apply all that makeup with?! There are so many brushes around, but if you carry the essentials like a powder, blusher, eyeliner and eyeshadow brush, you will be fine.
So, If I got stuck in a desert and had all these items, I could still look good whilst waiting to be rescued. No seriously, I could have added more items, but these are my top 10 makeup bag essentials. These are my go to items on a daily basis.
What would you add?

You named all the essentials, but forgot the most important one for the ladies who don't have amazingly curled lashes like you do: an eyelash curler! Without my curler, mascara is unnecessary. I'd replace the compact powder with the lash curler and that would be my top 10! :)
ReplyDeleteLovely post!

@Sal ~ Yes, I left it out on purpose as my lashes are far too curly! So I guess we all have the one item we would swap! Thanks for your comments ;) x
ReplyDeleteThese are the perfect essentials!

Wow, I think your list is nearly perfect on it's own :D
ReplyDeleteBut for someone prone to mess ups like myself, I would throw in a mini bottle of makeup remover and Q-tips just in case :)
Also for the humid weather here in Singapore... I guess a pack of powdered oil blotter would help keep the shine in check!

@ Julie ~ Thanks for your comments! :)
ReplyDelete@ Maria ~ Thanks for your comments. I totally agree, I would add those items. But remember, these are the top 10 items I would have. If I included those items, I would have to get rid of something else! :)
I agree with Sal. Eyelash curler! See.. I always wanted to have a small Asain nose. But instead I have Asaian straight eyelashes. (Asians usually have straight eyelashes) :D
ReplyDeleteThey are almost invisible! *sigh*
Lovely post though! :)

@Deja ~ Thanks for your comments. Long lashes are the envy of a lot of ladies. Something you should definitely be proud of! :)
ReplyDeleteLike someone else mentioned - eyelash curler! Can't go anywhere without it, I curl before & after the mascara! lol In winter months I sometimes prefer a lipstick rather than lipgloss as my hair gets stuck in the gloss when it's windy.
